Review by Mini Magoo
Evie is cautious about her new neighbor, Francesca. Francesca is wild and crazy and... has a very strange sense of style. However, she's funny and unique, and, despite warnings from her best friends, Evie finds herself being drawn into the quirkiness and uniqueness of Francesca's world: a world where anything can happen.
After partnering up for a school assignment, Evie starts hanging out with Francesca more and more, and not just for their work. They make plans all the time, anything from setting up the two best teachers in school to get together or setting up Evie with her crush, and Francesca is not the only one who has fun. They go to the beach over weekends and play at each other's houses.
But Evie is sensing tension between her and her best friends, Lily and Nisha. They don't approve of Francesca, which they make quite clear, but Evie doesn't care. She likes Francesca, and if she can just sort out things between her and her friends, and maybe even get them to like Francesca, everything would be perfect.
Or course, that's easier said than done, and Evie soon realizes that it will be hard to sort things out with Nisha and Lily. Futhermore, she and Francesca might not get away will all of their pranks. With the due date of her school project looming closer and closer, and Francesca insisting that everything will be fine, Evie can't help but wonder... how?
I really, really enjoyed This Is Me From Now On. It was a laugh-out-loud, quick novel that is perfect for a spring or summer read. I thought the characters were a bit hard to relate to, and the plot moved pretty fast, but this made things more exciting. All in all it was a highly enjoyable book, great for fourth to sixth graders.
